How Much Is My 1776 Quarter Worth?

Updated: 3 days ago

A day hardly goes by without someone asking about their “1776 quarter.” Many people assume the coin is over 200 years old and potentially worth a fortune simply because of the 1776 date displayed on the front. However, bicentennial quarters were actually minted in 1975 and 1976 to celebrate America’s 200th birthday, which is why the coin shows the dual date “1776–1976.”

While most 1776–1976 quarters found in circulation are common copper-nickel clad coins worth face value, there are some silver versions and proof strikes that can carry additional value. Coins with an “S” mint mark from the San Francisco Mint were produced in 40% silver, and higher-grade examples or collector proofs may be worth more depending on condition, silver content, and overall demand.
