Reverse of 1863 & 1864 Proof seated dollars

In the world of numismatics, it’s rare to encounter coins that tell a story not just individually, but together. We are proud to offer a truly exceptional pairing of Proof Seated Liberty Dollars from 1863 and 1864 — two coins that have clearly traveled through history side by side.

Both pieces exhibit beautifully matched toning, a strong visual cue that they have been stored together since their minting during the Civil War. Even more compelling, their (near) sequential PCGS serial numbers suggest they were submitted as part of the same original proof set — a detail that speaks to their shared provenance and preservation.

These coins are not only historically significant, but exceptionally rare. The 1863 Proof Seated Dollar was struck in a mintage of just 460 pieces, with only 21 known to exist in higher grades. The 1864 issue is equally scarce, with a mintage of 470 and just 26 coins graded finer. While each would be a standout on its own, together they form a harmonized, museum-worthy pairing that embodies both rarity and historical depth.

Given their unique connection and aesthetic harmony, we have made the decision to offer them exclusively as a set. For collectors who value provenance, eye appeal, and historical resonance, this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity.
